Planning Public Consultation

The Department for Education, Southam College and BAM Construction are pleased to share details of their proposals to replace some of the existing accommodation at Southam College with high-quality teaching and communal facilities within a single, efficient and sustainable building, to provide a learning environment that fully reflects the College’s high aspirations

The development proposals seek to improve the layout of the school through the replacement of some of the existing accommodation within the College site with a single building that will combine teaching and communal facilities. This will create a more coherent built form that sensitively responds to neighbouring uses and makes efficient use of the site. Existing planting and trees along the site boundaries will be retained and supplemented by soft landscaping features to enhance teaching and recreational spaces on site. 

The proposals also significantly improve on-site bus facilities, providing 8 bus drop-off and pick-up spaces and a large turning area to allow for the efficient movement of vehicles within the school site. The creation of a welcoming courtyard entrance incorporating tree planting and soft landscaping will open up the frontage of the new building, separating pedestrians from the vehicular access to promote pedestrian movement throughout the site. 

During the construction process, the College site will remain fully operational and all work will be carefully managed to ensure the efficient operation of the site and wider area. 



The following consultation slides illustrate the development proposals that are being prepared for the school.

Where required, they are supported by explanatory text that sets out the approach taken in relation to specific design choices. 

It is important to all stakeholders that the local community has the opportunity to provide their comments on the proposals, following which a planning application for the redevelopment will be submitted to Stratford-on-Avon District Council for their consideration.

All comments are welcomed, but we would be particularly interested to receive your feedback on the following:

  • Your interest in the development proposals (i.e. local resident, local business, school staff / parent / student, other);
  • Any aspects of the scheme that you like; and 
  • Any aspects of the scheme that you dislike, or any considerations that you feel should be incorporated into the proposals. 

Please note that the submission of your feedback is entirely optional. Any consultation responses received will be used for the purposes of informing the submission of a planning application for the redevelopment, and a summary of all responses will be collated into a Statement of Community Involvement to be submitted as part of that application. The personal details of respondents will not be included as part of that document.
