Sixth Form Attendance
Attendance is one of the key factors determining student success. Since we all want students to be successful, high levels of attendance need to be maintained. Attendance impacts a student’s attainment, wellbeing and wider life chances. It is important that students and parents/carers are familiar with the process and understand the importance of maintaining excellent attendance. However, it should be noted that the process is intended to support students and to remove barriers to attendance.
The expectation for Sixth Form students is to keep attendance at or above 96%. This target accepts the reality that illness and unavoidable appointments may impact student attendance. Being a member of the Southam Sixth Form community is a decision taken by the students. Students who do not meet the high standards expected for Sixth Form, accrue late marks, or who truant lessons, will trigger the graduated response outlined in our attendance documentation.
It should be noted that we take account of individual circumstances, and protected characteristics, when dealing with student attendance. Ultimately, we want to treat the root cause of the absence and remove barriers to attendance. For the most vulnerable students, regular attendance is an important protective factor and the best opportunity for needs to be identified and support provided. Safeguarding is attendance and attendance is safeguarding.

16-19 Bursary

The Sixth Form Bursary Fund is available to offer financial help with the cost of attending sixth form. It aims to ensure every eligible young person can participate in and benefit from a place and remain in 16-19 education if they wish. Full details of the scheme, including eligibility criteria, are available in the attached bursary application form. Don’t miss out on funding for students aged 16-19!
We welcome applications from all eligible students. Application forms and supporting evidence should be handed in to the sixth form team (Head of Sixth Form or Heads of Year) who will pass this onto our finance lead, Mrs Joiner. If your circumstances change during the year you may apply at any time.
Bursary support is intended to meet participation-related costs only (e.g. transport, educational visits, books and equipment, university open day visits and interviews) and will be based on individual need. Please note that Year 12 students who currently receive support must reapply for year 13. Please see the bursary application form.
